Is gossiping working for you?
Normally, gossiping isn’t something that you would think that it would be a kind thing, would you?
Someone wrote about using gossiping to get your message out in social networking or using it in your marketing efforts. I thought to myself – oh, yeah, you can’t really quit or get rid of gossip and the people who like to do it. At least not until it affects their own life in a negative way. Or they have experienced what vibration or energy of it that has damaged something or someone in their own life.
I was managing a non-profit which gossip is rampant in the business/or industry. If you want everyone to know something just tell someone and it will be spread around like fire for you. Anyway, gossip if negative is terribly damaging to anyone and a business.
I decided when I took over this operation to end the gossiping that was damaging to this particular operation. Even though I could not totally end gossip, I decided to use it in a positive way. I banned negative gossip by not willing to hear of any, and asked people not to talk of anything in a negative way. Instead, I asked them to to catch people doing good things and talking about it. Or even complimenting them about the good things that they were doing.
It was amazed that people would come up to me and say “So and so said this or so and so did this.” I would just say I don’t want to hear about it, unless it was something positive.
What is gossip? Gossip is hearsay. Something that someone else is telling you from someone else. Is the the truth? Not usually. Do we have to share this interesting tibit with others? No. So why do we do it?
I figure if someone wants to me to know something they will directly tell it, rather than to tell someone else to tell me. What you do with gossip is up to you. What actions or choices you do with this is really up to you – if you choose to change your mind and only gossip about wonderful things people are doing you are changing your life all around you. Here’s an example:
Are the people around you happy? If they aren’t, are you happy around them? What are you like to be around? Are you happy, sharing positive news, empowering people or cheering them up?
If not, perhaps it is time for you to change your mind and change your actions. BE HAPPY!
